You can add any fields with a direct relationship to the opportunity object without needing to create the same field on the opportunity object directly. For example, some fields on the opportunity page in Salesforce like the opportunity owner, or the account associated with the opportunity, are displayed on the opportunity page but are not filled in on the opportunity object, and their actual source is elsewhere. You can add these fields too!
