When to Create a Mode

With Field Config now available to all, every Clari admin has the power to create a Mode. Creating a Mode is incredibly easy, but perhaps you aren’t totally clear about when you should create a mode.

There are 4 primary reasons why you may want to create a new mode.

  1. New/Different Owner

    1. Modes are designed to reference a specific field for Ownership. Traditionally this would be a Sales Rep for New Business Deals.

    2. If we want to bring in new teams such as CSMs, SEs, or BDRs, a new mode with a different owner field would allow Clari to determine ownership based on whatever field you use in CRM to note which CSM, SE, or BDR, etc. is responsible for a deal.

  2. Column Layout

    1. Each user in Clari can reconfigure the columns in the Opportunity Module to appear as they see fit

    2. To “reset” those columns, a new Mode is a great way to ensure all users with access to the Mode get the same columns in the same order

    3. Another common use case is to create something to the effect of an “End of Quarter” Mode where columns are adjusted with the intent of centralizing the most important fields above the fold in the Opportunity grid

      1. You may need to lean on the Support/Configuration team as there are existing guard rails in Field Configuration

  3. New/Different Amount

    1. Similarly to the first point, Modes will always look to the specified field for the Amount or default roll up

    2. At times, you may have different Amount fields that different teams leverage at different times of the quarter

  4. New SFDC Object

    1. Each Mode in Clari references an object in SFDC - multiple modes can reference the same object or different objects depending on what you are looking to accomplish

    2. If you want to leverage fields from objects like the Splits or Product Line Item object, you will need a new mode to reference those fields
